A clear, structured process from farm to port.
Uganda grades its coffee to internationally recognised standards for both Arabica and Robusta. Our export process follows those standards at every stage, so that each container arrives as specified and with complete documentation.
The stages below describe how coffee moves from the farm to the vessel.
Our Coffee Export Process
- 1
Sourcing & Quality Control
- We work with local farmers and cooperatives to source Arabica and Robusta coffee.
- Quality checks at the point of purchase ensure that only suitable coffee enters the supply chain.
- 2
Processing
- Wet processing: pulping, fermenting and washing before drying.
- Dry (natural) processing: cherries are dried in the sun.
- Milling: hulling, then sorting by size, weight and quality.
- 3
Grading & Cupping
- Beans are graded by screen size: AA/A/AB for Arabica; 18/15/12 for Robusta.
- Trained cuppers evaluate each lot for flavour and consistency.
- Laboratory tests check moisture, defects and foreign matter.
- 4
Packaging
- Coffee is packed in clean jute bags, hermetic liners or bulk container liners, as specified by the buyer.
- Each bag is marked with the grade, origin, lot number and ICO mark.
- 5
Documentation
- Export licences and UCDA quality certificates.
- Phytosanitary and origin certificates, plus organic or Fair Trade certificates where required.
- Bill of lading, commercial invoice and packing list.
- 6
Logistics & Shipping
- Containers are loaded and sealed in Kampala.
- Shipments are transported to the Port of Mombasa and cleared through customs by licensed agents.
- Clients are kept informed of shipment status until arrival at the port of destination.
- 7
After-Sales Support
- We follow up on arrival quality and cup performance.
- We keep buyers informed about crop conditions, market prices and new lots.
Quality Every Bag Must Meet
In addition to grading, every Ugandan coffee export must meet the following UCDA standards.
Moisture Content
Both Arabica and Robusta are dried to this range for stable storage.
Defect Count
Defects per sample must not exceed the maximum set by UCDA for each grade.
Cleanliness
Coffee must be free of foreign matter such as stones, sticks and husks.
How We Operate
Sourcing & Selection
We work with farms and cooperatives to select properly harvested and well-dried coffee.
Processing & Grading
Coffee is hulled, cleaned and graded by screen size, density and defect count.
Quality Control
Moisture testing, defect analysis and cupping ensure that each shipment matches the approved sample.
Packing & Shipping
Coffee is bagged and labelled, export documents are prepared, and the shipment is transported to Mombasa.
Quality that supports farmers and builds Uganda’s coffee reputation.
Following Uganda’s grading system means our buyers get coffee that suits their market. Our focus on quality, sustainability and fair dealing also supports the farmers and communities behind every bag, and helps Ugandan coffee grow its share of the world market.
