Adding Value at Home: Our Plans for an Instant Coffee Factory
The majority of Uganda’s coffee is exported as green beans, and much of its value is therefore added outside the country. Caffe Commodities Uganda Limited intends to contribute to local value addition through the production of instant coffee.
The Project
We plan to establish a facility producing three types of instant coffee:
- Freeze-dried: preserves the best flavour and aroma, for premium products.
- Spray-dried: a cost-effective and consistent powder for the mass market.
- Agglomerated: granules that dissolve readily and retain their flavour.
Expected Benefits
Processing coffee in Uganda will create skilled employment, increase export earnings and provide farmers with an additional market, including for lower grades such as BHP.
Next Steps
The project is currently at the planning stage, covering feasibility studies, site selection and equipment sourcing. Further information is available on our Future Projects page.
